3 Ways to Answer Your Evangelism Call

3 Ways to Answer Your Evangelism Call

By Darrell Darden     4 Minute Read

Praise the Lord everybody. Everywhere in the Body of Christ, we hear about soul winning, we teach it, we preach it, and we practice it. With all that, do we ultimately know what it takes to be an effective evangelist for the Lord? Are we going out there with a full load of ammunition or are we in need of a reload? We are all called to be witnesses and to win souls as the word of God tells us in the great commission, Mark 16: 14-18 states:

Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

One of the key verses is verse 17, it starts “and these signs will follow those who believe…” Letting us know that if certain signs are not evident in your ministry then you are not acting at the full capacity of the Holy Spirit; that is, you are shooting low caliber bullets. So how do we objectively assess our caliper of evangelism ability?

Prayer, 3 Ways to Answer Your Evangelism Call Online Christian Store

The first thing we need to evaluate is our prayer life. Are we spending enough quality time before the Lord? There is a special anointing to be found there. A strong anointing is needed to break through the walls put up around sinners by the enemy to keep them in bondage. Jesus spoke about planting seed on good soil in Matthew chapter 13, and it is the anointing that breaks through to the good soil of the heart. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 instructs us to be praying continually or without ceasing. James 5:16 gives us a glimpse into the reason why prayer is so important describing prayer as "powerful and effective."

The second thing we need to evaluate is our knowledge of God's word. The bible says that we must “study to show ourselves approved…” in 2 Timothy 2:15. The word of God is alive and active and is an important tool in pricking the heart of sinners leading to an attitude of repentance. God's word was given to us as an instruction manual for us meant to equip us as revealed in 2 Timothy 3:16-17. The Word of God is pure and completely trustworthy (Proverbs 30:5-6) so believe the promises He has written for you and trust that His Word never returns void. (Isaiah 55:8-13

The third thing is this, the soil/person must be in the right condition to receive the word so that it can sink in and start to grow. You may be asking, "How do you know when the soil is ready?" Unfortunately, WE may never know, but the Holy Spirit can discern and lead us to those whose soil has been prepared and is ready to receive the seed of God's word. We as God's ambassadors must be obediently sensitive to the Holy Spirit. When you are led by the Spirit your evangelism will be much more effective, much more successful, and you won’t turn people off because they feel you are pushing them too hard.

Strong prayer life, constant study of the Word of God, and obedient sensitivity to the Holy Spirit are all that is needed to be an effective evangelist. God provides everything we need; we just have to be willing to serve Him and make the effort. God bless you all.

  • The soil analogy is so poignant, especially because I love gardening outside. I’m going to keep my spiritual soil rich by continued prayer!

  • I need to spend more time with God. I’m guilty of putting other things before Him. Thanks for this post, it’s reminded me to get back on track.

  • Gonna have to get me one of those “Warning might start talking about Jesus” shirts. Those are awesome.

  • One of things I need to work on is increasing my sensitivity to the Holy Spirit and knowing when it is a right time to approach someone about God. I have a tendency to just preach sometimes, which I know is off-putting, it’s just that I’m so excited at times!
