The Great Commission for God
The Great Commission for God

Praise the Lord everybody. As Christians we all are aware of our biggest mandate, The Great Commission, and never are we more eager to carry it out than when we first get “saved.” Everywhere we go we are eager to share our new love, our new reason for being with whomever will listen. In case you weren’t sure, Jesus gives us the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20:
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
We get our marching orders and we head out into the highways and byways on fire for the Lord with the Gospel of peace and then we meet the world where the spirit of the Antichrist reigns. Then we begin to realize that we better be able to give answers to questions we never even thought about bringing up our first obstacle in our endeavor to fulfill the great commission. This is something the Jehovah’s Witness figured out and you may notice that they send an apologist out with every group that they send out door to door on their Great Commission mission. An apologist is a person who offers an argument in defense of something controversial. They are there to answer questions that the other members of the group may not be seasoned enough to answer concerning their faith.
We also have an apologist who was sent to lead us into all truth and give us the power to live holy. That apologist is the Holy Spirit, and many believers have no idea how to access His power and knowledge while answering their call to participate in the Great Commission.
Jesus told His Disciples He will not leave them comfortless, then He explains why in John 14:26:
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.
The Holy Spirit is in us for just such times as when you are forced to defend your faith by those in the World while fulfilling our call to the great commission who are of other faiths or even cults who may question you. The word says He, the Holy Spirit, will bring back to your remembrance all things that Jesus has spoken to you. You might ask “When has Jesus ever spoken to me?” and the answer to that is IN HIS WORD. Every time we read His word; God is speaking to us. Therefore, we must study the Bible which says to show ourselves approved. (2nd Timothy 2:15) In order for the Holy Spirit to bring something back to your remembrance you first must have it in you. Gods word has the answer to every question you can ever be asked, but you must do the work of putting the data in your heart.
For example, when you’re out there taking the Gospel to the streets and you run into a Jewish person who tells you that Jesus was not the Christ and they are still waiting on Christ coming, all you have to do is open your mouth and let the Holy Spirit bring scriptures like the following back to your remembrance:
John 1:1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:14 - And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 10:30 - I and My Father are one.
Isaiah 9:6 - For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 20:28 - And Thomas answered and said to Him, “My Lord and my God!”
John 8:58 - Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
In order for these to come out of your mouth they must be inside you in the first place. In this place in time, we can not send out babes in Christ or unprepared believers to be defenders of the faith or soul winners. We can use them to give testimonies if they have an anointed story to tell; otherwise they must study to show themselves approved doing the best they can for God, working and studying in a manner that they will not be ashamed of. Learning how to lay out the Word of truth in a plain and simple manner, as spoken of earlier in 2nd Timothy 2:15.
With so many religions and cults out there for the world to choose from and all the info available on the internet people have more questions than in the past, intelligent questions and they expect intelligent answers. No longer is a lot of hollering and screaming along with the ability to turn a phrase going to get a certain group to understand and accept The Gospel of Christ.
The bottom line is whenever you go out to spread the Gospel you must be armed with the Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God. The word of God is alive and active and sharper than any two-edged sword it penetrates deep dividing the soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12). When you can answer any and all questions using the anointed word of God, that is a powerful weapon that can prick even the hardest heart. So always remember that we are equipped with the Holy Spirit and the word of God for every good work, and that no argument from the world can stand up against the truth of God’s word. God bless you all!
